It’s interesting the editors used “Expert’s Advice” in this title, because “advising” is not one of the suggestions by this Mental Health professional. This article is more about listening than advising—which is what we all need the most.

Suicide and Suicide Ideation are up among tweens and teens during this pandemic. This article looks at how to be aware of the needs of people contemplating this action and suggests “conversation” as one of the most proven methods of prevention.

Noam Chomsky is definitely one of the most prolific—and respected—thinkers of this century. His reflections are an important reminder of what we need to be aware of at this time.

Anything Gates is worth devouring to me. His foundation has poured millions into funding the vaccine, primarily focusing on its dissemination into developing nations that may be “left out” in for-profit models. Now, more than ever before, it’s important to remember none of us will recover if we all don’t recover.

Good teaching is not “telling” it’s engaging, whether that be in a classroom or virtually. This article reminds us that our whole community teaches our children and youth, not just professionals in a classroom. The tips in this article can be applied by professionals, but also parents at home.

I especially appreciated this article about debating with teens. The phrase, “No means no, unless you can persuade us otherwise” resonates with me for a sound principle for raising teens. It also points to evidence that teens raised in an authoritarian/compliance-based environment simply become better at lying.

We could all use more resources for working with children at this time and these books are wonderful conversation starters. I’m never one for having children watch a learning video or read a book alone. Use resources as a tool for conversations.
