This update started as an outreach to foster families and Group Homes in the Province of Saskatchewan. I also work with the Province as an Engagement Consultant for the Ministry of Social Services. If you would like some additional ideas of what an Engagement Consultant does to engage children and youth in the care of social services and corrections, please write me. Thank you

Schools Face A Massive Challenge To Make Up For Learning Lost During The Pandemic

Some research suggest that students could lose up to 3 years of learning due to the pandemic, especially in the areas of math and science with the heaviest impact on minority children. There are some good ideas in this article about how we can start responding to these losses. I especially am attracted to the idea of a “Tutor Core Corps” with older students matched to young students and paying them to provide extra assistance.

I have been visiting a young man in the Oregon Correction System for almost 20 years. He—and many others—almost died this year of COVID-19. That includes not just the inmates, but the guards around them too. The penal system IS a hot spot exploding in multiple communities that are ill-prepared to handle this virus.

Dr. Fauci is perhaps the most respected name in fighting this pandemic. He is very sober about the challenges that lay ahead, but he also has some good news. Take a moment to read it and pass it on. We could all use some solidly researched good news.
