A user's guide: How to talk to those hesitant about the COVID-19 vaccine

https://www.statnews.com/2021/03/26/users-guide-covid-19-vaccine-hesitant/

Herd Immunity will not be reached unless a significant portion of the population agrees to get their vaccines and a number of studies indicate that number may not be reached in a timely fashion (before variants make vaccines ineffective). This article identifies the effectiveness of talking to those who are “vaccine hesitant” as opposed to those who would identify as “anti-vaxxers. Be prepared for emotional conversations as anti-vaccine views are usually based in anxiety rather than fact.

6 things a pediatrician wants parents to know about kids and COVID-19

https://www.insider.com/kids-and-covid-what-to-know-according-to-pediatrician-2021-4

Children are still safer from COVID-19 than adults, but it’s important to remember they are still susceptible and with more adults getting their vaccines, more children are being reported when they get sick. By the way, getting a vaccine is one of the best things an adult can do to keep their child out of harm’s way.

BEYOND LOCAL: Four ways to support mothers' mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic

This article points out the extra stressors that mothers have faced during the pandemic. It also looks at what individuals, workplaces and society can do to respond to those additional issues. Moms need help, this article had good suggestions what can be provided for them.

Chris Selley: The vaccine miracle is real. Let’s drop the official miserablism and celebrate it

https://nationalpost.com/opinion/chris-selley-the-vaccine-miracle-is-real-lets-drop-the-official-miserablism-and-celebrate-it

I’d like to coin Selley’s term “miserabilism,” we need some practical, good news messages about the effect the vaccine is having—on our personal lives and on our society.

Young People Are Particularly Vulnerable To Lockdowns

https://www.aier.org/article/young-people-are-particularly-vulnerable-to-lockdowns/

For a number of reasons, young people face more pressures than most during these lockdowns. They are social beings and their brains are wired for connection. In addition, they are missing a number of life-events that are used to measure the path to maturity.

At Least 43,000 Kids in the U.S. Have Lost a Parent to COVID-19, Study Finds

https://time.com/5953001/covid-orphans/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=sfmc&utm_campaign=newsletter+brief+default+ac&utm_content=+++20210408+++body&et_rid=21600831

All the COVID-19 numbers are hard to wrap our heads around, but we should take a moment to reconcile this statistic. 43,000 children (in the US alone) have lost a parent due to the pandemic. We simply do not have the networks available to help children with that amount of grief and potential trauma. It is hard to underestimate the kind of toll this will have on this generation long term. But we should prepare for it.

I Missed My Second COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment. What Happens Now?

https://time.com/5952716/missed-second-vaccine-appointment/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=sfmc&utm_campaign=newsletter+brief+default+ac&utm_content=+++20210408+++body&et_rid=21600831

If you missed your second dose, schedule again as soon as you are able and do your best to get the same vaccine. If you are unable to get the same vaccine, read the following article.

Here’s What Happens If You End Up Getting Two Different Vaccines

https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2021/04/10403407/mix-covid-vaccines-moderna-pfizer-results?utm_source=Flipboard&utm_medium=rss

More research is required, but there doesn’t seem to be any adverse side effects to mixing vaccines, it’s just not suggested. As long as the second vaccine is based in an mRNA Covid-19 vaccine, they should compliment each other.
